Year 4/5 - Mrs Ramsell
Autumn Term 2017
We've got an exciting term planned for Year 4/5!
In History we're finding out all about the fascinating Victorian Era. What was life like? What were they famous for? We've already found out that being a child during Queen Victoria's reign was not particularly nice for some children. The BBC website on the Victorians is very interesting, click the picture below to check it out!
In English this term we will be using short films to develop our narrative writing. We'll be debating various Victorian issues and writing our own arguments. After half term we will be learning all about Charles Dickens through his biography and writing our own version. Halloween will see us writing spooky stories followed by a Poetry unit before we finish for Christmas. We're going to be super writers by the end of this year!
The Autumn term sees the children learning all about place value, number patterns and the 4 main number operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. All children should continue to practise their times tables to ensure they can recall them quickly and confidently. Don't forget the matching division facts too! Click here for some fun times tables games you can play online.
PE lessons will usually take place on a Wednesday and Thursday but PE kits must be in school everyday. Year 5 children will commence swimming lessons in the first half term, with Year 4 following after the October Half Term. Every child must have a pair of trainers for outdoor PE use.
